Yield to the Bus: It’s the Law

Added on Thursday, November 30th, 2006

Well, that’s not entirely true… yet. Or so I wish. Since my inception into the car free Metro world I’ve always been amazed that bus’ didn’t/don’t have the right away. When a bus makes its stops it also needs to pull out but there’s no law that I know of (and if there is, it’s by no means known or enforced) that keeps cars from not speeding passed stop busses wanting to merge back into traffic. And not to sound all BRU on you, but this has got to change.

Metro is the Bestest

Metro is the Bestest!

It’s really too bad that the American Public Transit Association’s logo for their “America’s Best” Award doesn’t look more like a Metro train schedule because then we’d have them posted all over our trains and stations.

Congrats on the award and all MTA, but this is getting a little ridiculous.   Please save the ink and sticky paper for more useful signage, god knows we need it.

Unmarked FlyAway Buses

FlyAway Logo
The recognizable LAWA FlyAway logo.

I’d like to preface this gripe by saying how much I love the LAWA FlyAway service that brings travelers from Union Station and Van Nuys to the chaos that is LAX.

Orange Line Collision

Terrible news. According to the LAFD News & Information Blog, an Orange Line Metro Liner bus collided with delivery truck that ran a red light today at Woodman Ave. and Oxnard St. Apparently 17 out of the 125 people on the bus were injured. Most injuries were minor, but the blog reports that one passenger suffered “serious” injuries. CBS2.COM has a video of the aftermath here.

Unfortunately, for those have followed the Orange Line, we know that this is not the first time an accident has happened. This is unfortunate, because the Orange Line has been been steadily gaining popularity since its inception (and initial string of accidents) and this frightening event might stifle the popularity a bit.

Mempis' Trolley

There’s been talk as of late about the likelihood of a trolley service returning to downtown Los Angeles and I for one would like to say I’m all for it. Now I know there are a lot of issues surrounding it and it’s hard to just say… YES LETS DO IT, but for the record, lets do it. Six weeks ago I wasn’t so sure, but traveling it seems has opened my eyes. (more…)

Transit TV SUX!!!

The L.A. Straphanger has made a list of his Top 10 L.A. Transit Gripes. Now there’s nothing inherently unique about a blogger griping about transit in Los Angeles, but the Straphanger is a transit blogger who’s definately got some sense about him, so his list is pretty respectable as far as these types of posts go.
