Gear is the newest posting category here on MetroRiderLA. Gear articles will be focused on the products that you’re going to want and need for the Los Angeles Public Transit Lifestyle. Think engadget, Gizmodo, or Uncrate, but for the transit crowd. Gadgets, apparel, books, toys, any product that aides or compliments the public transit lifestyle here in LA.
For example, the book review for “How To Live Well Without Owning A Car” is in the Gear category because it’s a product you can purchase that directly relates to the lifestyle we are promoting.

Today I was not only overjoyed with the magical coming of the ever elusive and usually cancelled 3-day weekend but I found equal exaltation in the discovery of a new Metro Rapid stop as well.
It seems the Rapid 714 finally got a stop between La Cienega and Crescent Dr., an overwhelmingly long drought for any Beverly Blvd. commuter. Now don’t get me wrong, I’m all for walking; all for eliminating some of the over abundant stops (sometimes 2 within a block downtown) to speed up service, but 20 minutes was starting to just plain suck. And yes I’m aware that it’s a limited stop Rapid but I say again, the distance was just too great!

MetroRiderLA promotes the public transit lifestyle in Los Angeles through news, information and analysis. And many of our readers, along with the blog contributors, have been keenly following the developments of the Metro Expo Line.
Expo is arguably the most important major transportation project in Los Angeles County. The communities between downtown Los Angeles and the Pacific Ocean contribute to the busiest transit activity in the county. Traffic has exponentially increased, as more jobs and residents move west. With both buses and cars not able to move at anything but a snail’s pace, the right of way along Exposition Boulevard is a vital asset to move a large amount of people fast.
And for Exposition Phase 2, between Culver City and Santa Monica, MetroRiderLA puts its full support behind using the right of way all the way.

Fred Camino has further solidified his reputation as Yelp’s resident transit guru. In March, all Metrolink and Coaster schedules have now been entered. Now, all Southern California rail stations are on Yelp. In April the focus is going to be on entering San Diego Trolley stations, as well as using stations to come up with transit-oriented lists.

I’m off for a week on a short vacation… I’ll be back to blogging on April 9th. Wad will also be gone for a week, so expecting posting to be light… if at all. It’s up to the others to pick up the slack!
See you next week.
