Public Displays of Affection in Hollywood

Public Displays of Affection is an event hosted by activist organization Global Inheritance, which encourages the audience to arrive at the concerts via public transportation. Last year, there was an event at Union Station.The event begins at 7 p.m. Thursday, September 27 in the courtyard of Hollywood & Highland, atop the Metro Red Line station. Featured performers are Ladytron, Great Northern and DJ Taina. Also on display is TRASHed: Art of Recycling Exhibit.

“Admission” is a transit pass or some proof of payment of a fare.

Transit connections: Metro Rapid Line 780 and local lines 2/302, 156/656, 163, 212/312 and 217; and LADOT DASH lines Hollywood and Hollywood/West Hollywood.

The Train Riders’ Association of California hosts the California Rail 2020 conference in Old Town San Diego November 2 through November 4, 2007.

The Saturday, November 3 conference at Caltrans’s District 11 headquarters, 4050 Taylor St. in Old Town, features keynote speaker Richard Phelps. He is Amtrak’s vice president of transportation, formerly working out of Los Angeles but recently promoted to Washington D.C. He’ll discuss the national passenger railroad’s operations and growth plans. A lunch is provided at Casa Guadalajara.

Other conference topics include the 2008 election, California’s high speed rail plans, a fare collection presentation by San Diego-based Cubic, presentations on rail links serving the county, and the historic San Diego and Arizona Eastern Railway.

Sunday, November 4 has a rail excursion, but the itinerary remains a mystery. And Friday, November 2 has a no-host mixer at Old Town restaurant El Fandango.

Rates for the conference: $75 per person if paid by September 30, $85 per person if paid between October 1 and October 31, and $95 per person on the day of the event. Register online or make a check out to “California Rail Foundation” and mail to:

Metrolink begins Sunday service on Antelope Valley Line today

Metrolink inaugurates Sunday service on the Antelope Valley Line today.

Three round trips operate on Sundays. Trains 260, 262 and 268 depart Lancaster at 6:45 a.m., 9:45 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., respectively. Trains 263, 265 and 269 depart Union Station at noon, 2:45 p.m. and 6:05 p.m.

Metrolink also now operates six round trips on Saturdays, all running between Lancaster and Union Station.

Buena Park Metrolink station opens today

Metrolink has a new station in Orange County. Buena Park will see revenue service on the Orange County and 91 lines today, beginning with northbound train 681, arriving at 4:55 a.m. The first southbound train, southbound 91 Line train 700, arrives at 6:12 a.m.

Orange County Transportation Authority will treat Buena Park passengers with free coffee and doughnuts. Also, Metrolink revises schedules for all lines today. An official grand opening party is scheduled for Saturday, October 6.

Buena Park Station is located at 8400 Lake Knoll Drive, near Dale Street and Malvern Avenue. It has 300 parking spaces and is served by OCTA lines 25 and 29.

Riverside Transit Agency service changes today

28: This route is canceled. See Route 71/82.
60, now Route 80: This route is renumbered to 80, extending west along Holt Blvd. onto Mountain Ave. to the Montclair Transcenter. Service east of Chaffey College is discontinued (see Route 70/81).
62, now Route 83: This route is renumbered to 83 and serves Euclid Ave. from Chino to 21st St. in Upland.
65: The south end of this route has been restructured with the south loop running on Valle Vista Drive to Bird Farm and Ramona (instead of Los Serranos) in Chino Hills.
67: Service has been extended to the Montclair Transcenter; service along Euclid has been discontinued. (See Route 62/83)
70, now Route 81: This route is renumbered to 81 and serves portions of former Route 75. It also serve areas formerly served by Route 60 east of Chaffey College in Rancho Cucamonga.
71, now Route 82: This route is renumbered to 82 and serves portions formerly served by Routes 28 and 71. Route 82 will also serve Sierra Lakes Parkway in north Fontana.
75: This route is canceled. Line 81 will serve the Frances-Archibald-Haven portions.
