From Grand Performances:

Our second annual Film Series sponsored by the Downtown Center Business Improvement District opens with 2005’s Oscar winner Crash. Several stories interweave during two days in Los Angeles involving a collection of inter-related characters. These racially and economically diverse groups of people pursue lives that collide with one another in unexpected ways. The interactions are interesting, riveting and sometimes unsettling. The film explores and challenges your ability to judge books by their covers. The evening opens with a DJ set featuring music from the soundtrack and other L.A. based artists.

“Salute America”: July 4th Downtown

10:30 am

Has your apartment building’s roof been closed off because some themed party a tenant threw got a bit out of hand, and therefore your usual place to celebrate the 4th of July is no more? Does he or she still deny the roof closure ever being their fault? Well fret no more, for as luck would have it, or perhaps said tenant works for the “Salute America” Commission, there is now something to replace your once glorious roof. Head downtown on July 4th to watch a reenactment of LA’s first July 4th celebration of 1847 at Fort Moore Garrison near Olvera Street. Complete with cannon and musket fire, the festivities start at 10:30am and go on into the night with a blasting fireworks display. But until the Chinese imported star makers go off, enjoy food, live entertainment and all the wonderful things Olvera Street has to offer. Getting there is a snap; just get off at Union Station from any of the rail lines and walk across the street.

From The Transit Coalition:

Philippe The Original, 1001 N. Alameda St. Los Angeles CA. 90012 (Click here)

Note:
After you get your food, we will move to a second floor meeting room, BUT first…. we gather at the table near the “front door” cash register for an informal get-together and then after most have arrived, we then go upstairs for the formal meeting.

Check near the cash register to see if we are there, if not, enter the upstairs on the Alameda St. side of the restaurant, as the west side has a sign that says the upstairs is closed.

Beware of the trick by the restaurant. After we go up, they put the closed sign back up. We will be up there, but call 818-367-1661, if you can’t figure out where we are!

Please RSVP Bart Reed or call 818-367-1661 to confirm. This way we will look for you before going upstairs.

The two day street festival takes place on Saturday, June 24 from noon to 8pm and Sunday, June 25 from 10:30am-6pm. Admission is just $10, which includes one free tasting, and get $2 off by showing your Metro ticket or pass at the festival entrance. Activities include: Cooking Demos, Carnival Rides and Cultural Crafts, Casino-Style Gaming, a Noodle Eating Contest with a Grand Prize of $250, Chinatown’s own version of Fear Factor, and on tour from China comes the Breathtaking Martial Arts Of The Shaolin Monks.
