3:00 pm

Omnitrans, the bus agency serving the Greater San Bernardino area, is also raising fares and cutting service over the next five years. Riders have until next week to give the agency their venom and plan accordingly until 2012.

The fares are going to increase from $1.25 to $1.35 for the general public, from $0.50 to $0.65 for senior citizens and disabled riders, $3.00 to $3.50 for a day pass (from $1.25 to $1.50 for senior citizens and disabled riders), as well as corresponding increases to its 7- and 31-day passes.

The service changes:

1: Reduce Saturday frequency to every 30 minutes.

8: Eliminate service east of Redlands Mall. Provide school trippers to Redlands East Valley High School on school days.

11: Reduce evening Saturday service to every 60 minutes.

15: Reduce Sunday frequency to every 60 minutes.

19: Reduce Saturday frequency to every 60 minutes.

20: Reduce Sunday frequency to every 60 minutes.

22: Reduce weekday frequency to every 30 minutes.

28: Operate only during peak hours

31: Cancel route.

60/70: Restructure to operate on Foothill Boulevard between Day Creek and Rancho Cucamonga Civic Center and become Line 70, which continues to Rancho Cucamonga Metrolink Station and Ontario Mills. Line 70 would be rerouted to Milliken Avenue to serve Rancho Cucamonga Metrolink Station and Civic Center.

62/67: Restructure to run on Euclid between Ontario Civic Center & 19th St. in Upland. Line 67 would have restructured service to include 16th St. west of Euclid, the Mountain corridor and Montclair Transcenter.

65: Eliminate service to Los Seranos area and California Institute for Men; end route at Chino Hills Marketplace.

66: Reduce weekday midday and evening service to every 30 minutes.

68: Cancel Sunday service. Also, reduce weekday evening service to every 60 minutes.

71: Cancel Sunday service. Eliminate service on Fourth Street and Haven Avenue, and reroute between Ontario Mills and Fontana to operate along Milliken, Jurupa, Etiwanda, Marley, Mulberry, Cherry and Sierra avenues, extending to South Highland and Walnut Village. Also, eliminate service to Country Village. Service would now connect with Riverside Transit Agency routes at Marley & Mulberry.

75: Cancel service.

90/361: Cancel Line 90 service between San Bernardino and Montclair. Improve service to every 30 to 60 minutes between San Bernardino and Riverside. New limited-stop Line 361 would provide new limited stop express service along corridors now served by Routes 1, 19, 61, and 62 between San Bernardino and Montclair at 15 minute frequencies.

OmniLink service in Yucaipa and Chino Hills would operate weekdays only.

San Fernando Valley June 2007 service change meeting

Added on Wednesday, February 7th, 2007

6:30 pm

Six lines will see service cancellations and more lines will be broken to improve Metro service reliability within the San Fernando Valley. These service changes would go into effect in June 2006 if approved, according to the San Fernando Valley Transit Insider.

The changes are to be discussed at meetings on January 10 and February 7 in Van Nuys.

Cancellations and service reductions include:

154: Cancel midday and Saturday service.
155: Cancel late night and weekend service.
168: Cancel service.
183: Cancel service between Burbank and Glendale.
239: Cancel midday and weekend service.
656: Operate only between Panorama City and Hollywood.

Kymberleigh Richards, Transit Insider webmaster and member of the San Fernando Valley Sector Governance Council, said in an e-mail that “service cancellations will shift operating hours to overcrowded high-ridership lines to improve frequency of service on those lines.”

Routing changes are proposed for:
90/91: End northbound service at Sunland and create new Line 290 to operate
between Sunland and Olive View Medical Center.
92: End northbound service at Burbank Metrolink Station and create new Line
292 to operate between Burbank and Sylmar/San Fernando Station.

A new express service is proposed to run between North Hollywood and Pasadena, possibly complementing service provided by the Los Angeles Department of Transportation’s Commuter Express Line 549.

The January 10 and February 7 meetings, both beginning at 6:30 p.m. are held at the Marvin Braude Constituent Center (Van Nuys City Hall), 6262 Van Nuys Boulevard, in Van Nuys. It is accessible by the Metro Orange Line, Rapid Line 761, Local lines 156, 164, 233 and 237; and LADOT DASH Panorama City-Van Nuys and Van Nuys-Studio City.

Get LA Moving Presentation/Transit Coaliton Meeting

Added on Tuesday, January 23rd, 2007
January 23, 2007
6:45 pm

This meeting starts at 6:45 PM at Phillipe’s Downtown and goes until 8:45PM or later!

Damien Goodmon, creator of the now famous (at least amongst transit advocates and Los Angeles blogosphere readers) $40 billion hypothetical rail transit map for Los Angeles is launching a new plan and website called “Get LA Moving“. He, in conjunction with the Transit Coalition, is having a public presentation tonight at the Transit Coalition’s monthly meeting at Philippe’s downtown.

Here’s the contents of the email he sent for anyone who is interested:

About a year after I began to dream what an extensive urban rail transit system in Los Angeles would look like, we’re finally beginning to stretch our legs.

Tonight will be the first public presentation of the Get LA Moving Plan (outline below) at the Transit Coalition monthly meeting at Philippe’s in downtown: http://boards.eesite.com/board.cgi?boardset=ExpoLine&boardid=Lobby&thread=21&spec=6233646

I really can’t think of a better place to officially launch this effort than the intimate meeting of this phenomenal group of transit advocates, many of whom I directly credit for helping quickly bring me up to speed about the history and current state of mass transit in the southland. I look forward to their feedback and will use it - as I have done all comments - to strengthen the proposal.

If you’re unable to attend, we’re going to put the powerpoint presentation on our “temporary” website, which will be operational by the end of the week (likely by Thursday). I say “temporary” because we have big plans for the website and we’re going to need your help and the help of many others to get them accomplished.

The website and the map update are the product of Jason Law, an ordinary citizen simply contributing some free time and his talents to an effort to make our communities and our great city more livable.

I have spent so much time on this project because I wholeheartedly believe that our many skills and the talents of many others who have offered and will offer help can be combined to create a powerful website that fosters coalition building and activism. The plan sparks debate and the site will encourage it to spread through the web, while also directing individuals to existing transit advocacy efforts and support the creation of new ones.

As shown both by the columns/blogs of the LA Times’ Steve Lopez and the blog coverage of the old version of the map, there’s a passionate desire for solutions to our mobility crisis among Angelinos. All that is needed is our leadership and coordination to transform these strong sentiments into winds of change.

Stay tuned…we’re beginning to get good at this. :-)

Sincerely,
Damien Goodmon

P.S. getlamoving@gmail.com is now my public email address. I have no problem with people distributing it as far and wide as you like.

Sounds like a very exciting idea, and if my workload slows down tonight I definitely plan on attending, and so should you!
