Foothill Transit service changes

Foothill Transit introduces bus rapid transit service, Silver Streak, as well as several service reductions, one new local route and one route cancellation today. Two commuter routes also have fare reductions.

Silver Streak will do the heavy lifting on the El Monte Busway, as Foothill cancels peak-hour extensions of its all-day express lines: 482, 486, 488 and 492, as well as commuter line 494. Line 480 will continue to exist, but only as a local route. Silver Streak is free through April 1.

Line 184: Western terminus shortened to Westfield Shoppingtown Santa Anita.

Line 189: Service reduced to operating during rush hours only. Amusingly, Foothill keeps this around to provide “… super-convenient service between Claremont and Glendora.” Those are Foothill’s words, not ours.

Line 197: A new route, combining existing lines 190 and 191. Foothill calls it “clever.”

Line 283: Service canceled. Foothill promises to “enhance” school tripper Line 851, and Line 284 will be extended to Foothill Boulevard.

Lines 481 and 690: Both commuter routes will have the same fare structure as Silver Streak: $2 adult fare and $80 31-day pass. Passengers transferring from local lines must pay a $1 step-up fare.
