This Saturday, September 15th, Nike is bringing the Run Hit Remix to Los Angeles. The Run Hit Remix is a 5-mile run that starts and ends at the LA Coliseum. What’s unique about this race is that at every mile there’s a different performer playing one of their hit songs… This year’s performers are straight outta the old skool: Naughty By Nature, Sir Mix A Lot, the Sugarhill Gang, Dawn Robinson (former lead singer of En Vogue), and at the finish line you’ll find none other than MC Hammer. Brilliant. Registration is going on now (and ends tomorrow, so get moving if you want to participate!) and costs $39. A portion of hat money goes to Let Me Play, Nike’s new initiative to get kids more active - basically they build/resurface playing surfaces (soccer fields, basketball courts, etc) and give kids the chance to play sports in places that were once unplayable.

So what’s this have to do with public transit? Well, the organizers are encouraging participants to arrive by public transit, and to help spread the word they’ve given us a pair of Nike Zoom RS+ running shoes to give away to one of our lucky MetroRider commenters. The shoes, which retail for $100, are “Nike+” ready, meaning they have a special pocket for the Nike+ Sports Kits sensor that lets your shoes talk to your iPod Nano when you go running. Pretty sweet.

So here’s the contest: Not only do runners have to get to the Coliseum on Saturday, they also have to get to the Niketown store in Beverly Hills on Thursday or Friday to pick up their running packets (which includes their dry-fit shirt with the bib number on it). Leave a comment with the transit routes that serve these venues or with instructions on how to get to one of the venues from your neighbhorhood and you will be entered in a raffle with the others who comment for a chance to win the shoes! Contest closes on Friday, September 14th.

We obviously have a wide variety of MetroRiders and I’m happy to see you all embracing the Public Transit Lifestyle. Make sure to tell your friends about the lifestyle and about MetroRiderLA. The more people we get in on this the better.

You may have noticed I’ve been posting pretty lightly (okay, not at all) this past week. I’ve been busy with work and just haven’t had the time or energy. Luckily Wad has pulled up that slack and made a post nearly every day this week, so thanks for that Wad. On the same note, I also got a number of emails this week from readers with some inside information, news, and other such insights… MetroRider articles essentially. And I thank you guys for that!
