Mempis' Trolley

There’s been talk as of late about the likelihood of a trolley service returning to downtown Los Angeles and I for one would like to say I’m all for it. Now I know there are a lot of issues surrounding it and it’s hard to just say… YES LETS DO IT, but for the record, lets do it. Six weeks ago I wasn’t so sure, but traveling it seems has opened my eyes. (more…)

Art Night Pasadena
Ahh Los Angeles… the smog-ridden cultural and transit wasteland. At least that’s what they’d like us to believe. But MetroRiders know better, and we’ve found that one of the best ways to experience the “cultural” side of Los Angeles is by never setting foot in a personal automoblie… those just lead us to parking lots and pricey valets. There are three reports for this month, two of which are available for reading. The third was an attempted exploration of Metro Line 489 on September 26, but the bus never showed up. Readers were screwed out of a good read as much as What A Rush was screwed out of a good ride. Give Customer Relations some hell and tell them that the 3:32 p.m. trip never arrived.

Take a ride after the jump.

world subways

This is interesting.

A commenter on a Curbed LA post about Damien Goodman’s ambitious-yet-improbable plan for a $40 billion rail transit system in Los Angeles posted a link to this website that shows the world’s subway systems represented graphically and to the same scale. (more…)

Bus And Bike

The public transit lifestyle and the car-free lifestyle walk hand-in-hand. If you’ve decided to go car-free, it’s very likely you’re living a public transit lifestyle, and likewise if you’ve embraced public transit you’re probably on your way to becoming car-free.

Jillian over at Metroblogging Los Angeles has caught wind of an event called Life Can Be So Car-Free presented by C.I.C.L.E., a non-profit organization that promotes a “bicycle-lifestyle”. (more…)
