Yelpcast update

Added on Wednesday, January 3rd, 2007

In just a few weeks after adding a Yelp badge to the site (see lower right), MetroRiderLA has made its presence felt on the site, a social-networking site that’s part MySpace, part GoogleMaps and part Zagat guide. It’s quite a useful service.

Fred Camino and I have provided the content, and we also add the public transit connections to each location.

As of 4 p.m. January 3, our Yelpcast has 53 reviews. We received 5 compliments, made 10 friends, and our reviews have earned 65 useful votes, 35 cool votes and 1 funny vote.

From MetroRiderLA, we thank you for using our badge. More reviews are coming.

And in 2007: The Year in Transit, the legend continues.

Metro Rapid 741

Decisions, decisions.

The December 2006 shake-up has seen Metro’s largest expansion of limited-stop service in 12 years. This expansion includes a brand-spanking-new Rapid line for Reseda Boulevard, Line 741.

The San Fernando Valley’s incessant whining for improving transit service out of proportion to actual ridership has again paid off.

And in the case of Reseda Rapid, quite handsomely.

Tore up from the floor up

Metro Orange Line

Work crews are busy repaving the Orange Line busway between North Hollywood and Valley College. Buses exit the right of way in front of Valley College and use Chandler Boulevard to get to the North Hollywood station.

None of the four Metro Rail lines has needed its tracks replaced, even the Blue Line at age 16. However, Metro’s newest major project, the Orange Line, already needs repaving after a little more than a year in operation.

The Daily News and KCBS-Channel 2 report on the crumbling roadway. Metro advises passengers to expect delays on the street-running portions.

November 7 Ballot Propositions

Added on Monday, October 9th, 2006

Two proposals in the November 7 elections will direct the way taxpayer money will be used for transportation in California.

Proposition 1A places new requirements on how gas tax money is to be spent and reinforces a previously passed ballot proposition with the same effect. Proposition 1B authorizes the state to float $19.5 billion in bonds for road, rail and public transit improvements.

Five other initiatives also have varying effects on transportation money and policies.
