What is MetroRiderLA?

MetroRiderLA is a blog that promotes, supports, and critiques the burgeoning Transit Oriented Lifestyle forming in Los Angeles. It was created in order to inform the people of Los Angeles about their public transit system and to create a forum where news , information, and discourse can be gathered with the intent of improving the future of transit oriented mobility in our city.

What do you mean “Transit Oriented Lifestyle”?

The implication is simply that the citizens of Los Angeles must accustom themselves to public transit as a lifestyle in order to break free of the “car culture” that supposedly exists and flourishes in the city. Once we view public transit as a way of life that connects us as an urban community we can free ourselves of the shackle of the automobile and all the negative baggage that it carries. The Transit Oriented Lifestyle is one where walking, bicycling, mass transit, and car-sharing all take precedence over the personal automobile.

So who are you?

We are you. Citizens of Los Angeles. The authors also happen to be public transit users to varying degrees. Some do not own a car and rely solely on the public transit system to get around in LA. Others split their time between auto and transit, but are eager to find a way to erase the auto completely from their Los Angeles lives. Regardless, every author has a vested interest in the future of public transit in the city of Los Angeles. We are not affiliated with Metro.
