Gateway Cities Service Sector Meeting and opinion on service changes
The last of five Metro service sector meetings, this one for the Gateway Cities, is this afternoon. It begins 5:30 p.m. at The Gas Company Building, 9240 Firestone Bl., Downey. It is accessible by Metro Rapid line 715, Local lines 115, 127 and 266; and DowneyLink lines Northeast, Southwest and Southeast.
If you can’t go, Metro accepts comments by e-mail with “Service Changes June ‘09?” in the subject line, or via normal mail at
Metro Customer Relations
Attn: June 2009 Service Changes
One Gateway Plaza, 99-PL-4
Los Angeles, CA 90012-2932
My opinions of the changes follow the jump.
I support the proposed cancellation of Line 26, but only when LADOT can convert Virgil Avenue service to a DASH line. Until LADOT is ready to take over the line, Metro should continue to operate the line.
I also support converting Line 53 night trips to Line 51 service and shortening Line 105.
I oppose the route modification to Line 128, which should be kept on Alondra Boulevard. I recommend Metro look into transferring part or all of this line to Norwalk Transit for operation.
Metro has tried in years past to cancel Line 254, and it should look into canceling this service. Alternatively, I recommend restructuring this line to the Line 44 and Line 251 proposals as found in the Metro Eastside Gold Line Transit Service Interface Proposal.

The 715 does not reach the Gas Company Building. It stops about half a mile before Stonewood Mall. The rest of the lines do take you there.
The fastest way, ironically, to get to this meeting is to overshoot and come back, by taking the Green Line east to the end of the line (Norwalk) and coming back west on Metro 115 from there.
Otherwise you’re in for a half-hour trip east on 115 from the Firestone Blue Line Station. (Going west from Norwalk, it’s about 10 minutes.)
