Eastside Gold Line Transit Service Interface Proposal — Part 1: Los Angeles Department of Transportation

Open Source Transit rolls out of the division today! This initiative is by transit riders, for transit riders — and it is designed to simulate a transit agency’s public hearing process for route changes.
The following is a list of proposed changes for Los Angeles Department of Transportation‘s DASH services to better interface with the Eastside extension of the Metro Gold Line. These are only user-generated proposals and do not reflect any guarantee or the position of LADOT.
These proposals will be submitted to city of Los Angeles and LADOT officials. If you wish for your comments to be included with the report, please leave your real name and e-mail with your comments and they will be forwarded for consideration. You can also submit private comments by e-mail.
The following are three major route changes for DASH routes in Boyle Heights and northeast Los Angeles. Two of the four are proposals for LADOT to take over operation of a service presently operated by Metro. Post or e-mail comments by March 1.
To see a visual illustration of these routes, consult the Google Map of the Eastside Gold Line Transit Service Interface Proposal:
| Los Angeles Department of Transportation | |
| NEW DASH — Boyle Heights/Chinatown |
Rationale: This line combines the Chinatown portion of the Lincoln Heights/Chinatown DASH and Metro lines 605 and 620, and tries to re-create the former Metro lines 250 and 253. This line not only provides a north-south transfer to the Gold Line, but connects Boyle Heights to County/USC Medical Center, Chinatown and Union Station. Route: Union Station, Vignes St., Cesar Chavez Av., Figueroa St., Centennial Street, College St., Main St., Griffin Av., Zonal Av., County/USC Medical Center, State St., Cesar Chavez Av., Boyle Av., Olympic Bl., Grande Vista St., Euclid Av., 4th St., Evergreen Av., 1st St., Soto St., Cesar Chavez Av., Evergreen Av., Wabash Av., Soto St., Marengo St., State St., County/USC Medical Center, Zonal Av., Griffin Av., Main St., College St., Centennial Street, Figueroa St., Cesar Chavez Av., Vignes St. and Union Station. |
| NEW DASH — East Los Angeles/Garvanza |
Rationale: This line combines the existing Boyle Heights/East Los Angeles DASH with the remnants of Metro lines 46 and 255 to form a Northeast-to-East L.A. beltline that connects the Pasadena and Eastside branches of the Gold Line. Route: Colorado Bl., La Loma Rd., Figueroa St., Colorado Bl., Av. 64, York Bl., Figueroa St., Highland Park Station, Figueroa Street, Avenue 52, Griffin Av, Zonal Av., Marengo St., Soto St., Wabash Av., Evergreen Av., Blanchard St., Gage Av., Hammel St., Floral Dr., Rowan Av., 1st St., Indiana St., 3rd St, Rowan Av., Hubbard St., Herbert Av., and Whittier Bl. |
| NEW DASH — El Sereno/Monterey Hills |
Rationale: This line modifies the existing El Sereno/City Terrace DASH to ensure the residents of El Sereno access to both Pasadena and Eastside legs of the Gold Line. It also frees up Metro’s very long 256 route to operate as a straightened Eastern Avenue crosstown service. Route: San Pasqual Av., Hough St., Chestnut Av., Comet St., San Pasqual Av., York Bl., Figueroa St., Av. 58, Marmion Wy., Highland Park Station, Av. 57, Figueroa St, Ave. 60, Collis Av., Huntington Dr., Van Horne Av., Wadena St., Newtonia Dr., Maycrest Av., Huntington Dr., Eastern Av., Templeton St., Warwick Av., Alhambra Av., Lombardy Bl., Eastern Av., Druid St., Multnomah St., Soto St., Alcazar St., Indiana St., Fowler St., Herbert Av., City Terrace Dr., Wabash Av., Mott St., 4th St., Soto St., 1st St. |
| NEW Metro Line 181 |
Rationale: The proposed Line 181 would completely fall within Los Angeles city limits and would be broken away from present Metro Line 180. This new route may be operated considerably cheaper if it was a new Eagle Rock DASH service (see Metro service proposal). Route: Highland Park Gold Line station, Figueroa St., Ave. 54, Monte Vista St., Ave. 61, Piedmont Av., Figueroa St., York Bl., Yosemite Dr., Figueroa St., La Loma Rd., Genevieve Av. and Figueroa St. to return to one-way turnaround near Highland Park Gold Line Station. |
Next stops in the Transit Service Interface Proposal: Metro, Montebello Bus Lines and Norwalk Transit.
