Finally, a Pam Chat that doesn’t suck

This Saturday, Pam O’Connor will talk about her year as Chair of the Metro Board, Metro’s future transit plans, and other issues… and take your questions as well, as the Southern California Transit Advocates continue their 2008 Speakers’ Series. Kymberleigh Richards, SO.CA.TA’S Public and Legislative Affairs Director, will be moderating the chat so you’re more likely to get your questions answered than Metro’s Pam chats.

From the link:
Pam O’Connor, member of the Metro Board of Directors, will be the guest speaker at the August 9 meeting.

Ms. O’Connor, who has just completed a one-year term as Chair of the Metro Board, has served on the Santa Monica City Council since 1994 and has served three terms as that city’s mayor.

Southern California Transit Advocates holds general membership meetings at Angelus Plaza, 255 S. Hill St., in the fourth floor meeting room. The meeting begins at 1:00pm and Ms. O’Connor will speak at 2:15pm. The general public is welcome to attend.

The location is transit accessible by about 50 bus lines and the Red/Purple Line, or if you insist on driving, parking is $5.00.

  1. I wouldn’t be able to attend then but maybe someone can ask my question for me or answer it here if they know?

What are some of the ways Metro is working with Foohill Transit? What does Metro have in their future transit plans in regards to cooperation or projects with Foothill Transit and the Sand Gabriel Valley/Pomona Valleys?

I’m just curious to know as I live in Pomona and Foothill Transit is my main transit provider. It seems to me that Metro gets way more funding which I think is necessary, however, whatever goes to Metro is less that goes to Foothill Transit. I would just like to know how Metro plans on helping Foothill Transit to benifit from their future plans. If someone could answer that with as much detail as possible, It would be greatly appreciated.

  3. Garrett,

Wish I could help you there, but owing to the patterns established by Metro over the past year or so (not to mention how Metro sold to Foothills Transit some 13 of its lines 17 or so lines out to that Valley, over the last few years), I imagine loads of folk who have to work (which is Metro’s primary demographic, and which is a query deserving mention in itself: why have a mid-afternoon conference inviting members of a public which would get fired for attending far more important events—such as the D2K parades through the Garment District and which sticks in my memory owing to all the sweatshop workers that waved from the windows along Spring Street, et al, during the event—during a time unavailable to the very demographic serves?)
I imagine there will be loads of questions that, sadly, will go unasked this Friday.

  4. BusTard: The meeting is on Saturday. Says so right in the announcement.

Foothill Transit is an included and eligible operator–once the socata.net website is up again (right now it has some sort of glitch) you can read our page on the process by which Metro funds operators in the region (itself along w/Foothill, Culver City etc.).

  6. I went looking for where I saw the date originally, and it was at this link, which is now broken: http://www.socata.net/gm/archives/00000078.shtml. Hmmm…

  7. Our website has problems (again), but the date on it is same as the cut and paste Fred posted above. Don’t know why you thought it was a weekday.
