b/c of the geography of LA I think it’d be more difficult to impose true congestion prcing. Besides, if there’s a california city that really needs it, it’s SF! Muni is crippled b/c of congestion in californias supposed “most liberal city” Meanwhile, implmenting congestion prcing shouldn’t be too hard considering it’s a peninsula…
all the same, i wish te best to LA’s attempts
San Francisco is wonderful, but Congestion Pricing in the London sense probably couldn’t politically happen until the Transbay terminal is finished in 2020 and BART goes to Marin. But it is theoretically possible at some point.
dan-
i hadn’t read that bart was due to be extended to Marin…are u sure you don’t mean SMART?
also, why would the x-bay terminal have an impact? The only difference it brings about is a short extension of caltrain to downtown SF (about 1 mile). Caltrain riders can already choose to take Muni buses or trains (ie the T-line) from the current depot. I don’t see your logic here b/c it doesn’t seem like the terminal is going to add much in the way of new service or capacity.
Also, I cannot imagine many people in Marin being unable to pay a congestion charge.
Brian,
I was referring to the politics of the charge, not to its merits.
Being able to ride Cal Train all the way into downtown without having to transfer to Muni first would aid in mollifying opposition from the South, and BART to Marin would reduce opposition from the north (of which there are no current plans I know of).
I fully support its merits.
