has anyone gone to the festival of books before… what can one expect?
Expect a ton of walking, and this is walking up and down steep hills. Definitely bring your walking shoes, and your glasses if you need them.
lol, thanks
I was there yesterday. I addition to walking a lot, expect huge crowds.
I went to the Festival of Books today, taking Metrolink, Red Line and the #720….
a. The Red Line was a bit slow in parts (maintenance?)
b. The #720 took forever to show up at Wilshire/Vermont, and then came bunched up in two’s. Also they are bumpy. I was almost jolted out of my seat several times…
c. I got off at Wilshire/Westwood and walked to Lot 32, where the UCLA shuttles were available to take people to the campus.
d. Lots of walking around, climbing stairs or hills to get from one part of the campus to another. Of course, I’m a UCLA alumnus, so I was familiar with it. I had the chance to meet quite a few authors. And, *Padma* was there…almost made up for missing Ray Bradbury yesterday.
e. I got away from all the crowds for a while by sneaking off to the research library (I had my own stuff to do there anyway)
f. Coming back, I thought I wasn’t going to make the 5:25 train back to Rancho, but I did. (They held the train a bit, waiting for the Lancaster train to arrive for transfers).
