In case anyone is missing it, everyone should go read John von Kerczek’s really interesting series of blogs on Population and Station Densities over at “Ditch the Car, Take the Metro”. The maps are really intelligent. Not everyone will agree with all of his conclusions I am sure, but they are well thought out and well explained.
