  1. Gee. Is anyone shocked that this oil-based administration would censor something that might decrease oil consumption?

  2. Utterly shocked!

In the long term, it should be the objective of Federal transportation policy to provide every American the option of mobility without an automobile. In a 21st century where oil supplies will be increasingly uncertain, such a policy will give our country needed security in the form of security of mobility. For a nation as dependent on mobility as America, security of mobility is as important as security of life, liberty and property.

    What a ridiculous idea!

  3. Sorry the Gold Line got roughed up. The MTA really hates the idea.

But listen, it’s going to get done, sooner or later. It’s the only transit project that has its own established bureaucracy working to get the project completed.

My thought is to start trying to squeeze the cities along the line for most of the money to build the thing, since they will get the most benefits out of it. Not ALL of the money, but a good chunk. There’s, what, 10 or 11 cities along the way, and political support amongst the mayors and city councils is pretty strong.

Let’s get them to sell some municipal bonds and gather up about 50 or 60 million bucks per city. Suddenly there’s over half the budget, and Uncle Sam will fork over the rest.

Yes, the Purple Line will carry more people, but both are needed.
