Yes, it’s another in a series of many transit project meetings. This time, Metro reveals its plans for Phase II of the Expo Line, including the burning question: Will the agency do the right thing or cave in to the worst elements of Cheviot Hills?

All of the following meetings are 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

  1. The time has long past come to stand up to the Cheviot Hills old guard wanting to go back to 1957 Los Angeles.

  2. We need to keep this thing as grade separated as possible. It should definitely go through Cheviot Hills, rerouting it down Venice and Sepulveda would be a waste of metro owned ROW and a 15 minute delay to the average trip time between Santa Monica and Downtown. Coincidentally, both of those streets are part of separate lines in Damien’s plan that will (God willing) be built at some later date.

I’m more concerned about how the expo line will be routed through Santa Monica. Grade separation at Cloverfield will be absolutely necessary; a grade level crossing there would be absolute hell. Separations at Bundy and Sawtelle/Pico wouldn’t be bad either. The routing west of Cloverfield seems a bit fuzzy. Apparently there is a call to go underground west of 14th st since the trees in the median of Olympic are historic and therefore the only alternative would be trains sharing a lane with car traffic. Ugh. If you ask me, everything west of Cloverfield should be underground.

  3. Altogether now:
    CHE-VI-OT! CHE-VI-OT! CHE-VI-OT! CHE-VI-OT!

  4. Interesting.

No note of Damien Goodmon’s explosion at the meeting in which he loudly cursed out Expo CEO Rick Thorpe.

Also no note of how he yelled at the Metro Board on Thursday about this, during public comment on a barely relevant agenda item.

If Damien’s plan is going to get any serious consideration, God’s will is going to have less of an effect on its chances as the fact that Damien is quickly alienating the policymakers who would have the power to approve or kill it.

  5. When the Purple Line finally gets out to Santa Monica, it really should end at a joint terminal with the Expo Line, similar to Coney Island terminal in Brooklyn.
