Riding the Bus to work
Yep, I finally did it. I’ve been promising myself for over a year that I would see what it’s like to ride the bus from little Atwater Village all the way to ritzy Beverly Hills and try to do my part for the environment, for the city and for my sanity. And you know what, it was easy.
On Friday, I rode from Universal City — as I had dropped off my car at the dealer to get fixed — but today was all Atwater/Beverly Hills. I took the 603 and the 4 and was to and from work within an hour.
And you know what? I’m gonna freakin do it again…at least one day a week and then, perhaps expand from there. Hell, I might even be able to read a book again. All I know is that I arrived at work and at home, relatively stress free, with an iPod song in my heart.
So, if you have been thinking about trying it out and doing it. As it has been said, just do it.

You may want to do 704 instead of 4. I would imagine between the CaƱon and Wilshire stops, the 704 would work just as well and be a bit faster.
Congratulations! Most days I have a similar commute to work on the bus, from Silver Lake to Beverly Hills. On the days when I borrow my boyfriend’s car, I really miss being able to read and not having to worry about maneuvering through traffic. You might find that one day a week isn’t enough!
Congratulations! Glad you had a good experience, hope you keep up with it! Buses get such a negative rap, and admittedly sometimes they deserve their reputation, but for the most part being driven around sure beats driving yourself around.
Yeah, Congrats! If only everyone would do this one day a week, we wouldn’t be in Iraq.
Yeah, I would have been happy with the Metro 704, but the 4 came first.
Took the 96 to Universal City today and it was right on time and the money machine didn’t work. So, I rode for free. That said, it’s a mighty circuitous route to University City.
Drove into Beverly Hills after I picked up my car and immediately felt my BP rise.
Public transit is looking better and better.
