Go Metro to Nike Run Hit Remix, Win Some Rad Shoes
[tags]contest, nike, public transit, los angeles, run hit remix, coliseum, metro[/tags]

This Saturday, September 15th, Nike is bringing the Run Hit Remix to Los Angeles. The Run Hit Remix is a 5-mile run that starts and ends at the LA Coliseum. What’s unique about this race is that at every mile there’s a different performer playing one of their hit songs… This year’s performers are straight outta the old skool: Naughty By Nature, Sir Mix A Lot, the Sugarhill Gang, Dawn Robinson (former lead singer of En Vogue), and at the finish line you’ll find none other than MC Hammer. Brilliant. Registration is going on now (and ends tomorrow, so get moving if you want to participate!) and costs $39. A portion of hat money goes to Let Me Play, Nike’s new initiative to get kids more active - basically they build/resurface playing surfaces (soccer fields, basketball courts, etc) and give kids the chance to play sports in places that were once unplayable.
So what’s this have to do with public transit? Well, the organizers are encouraging participants to arrive by public transit, and to help spread the word they’ve given us a pair of Nike Zoom RS+ running shoes to give away to one of our lucky MetroRider commenters. The shoes, which retail for $100, are “Nike+” ready, meaning they have a special pocket for the Nike+ Sports Kits sensor that lets your shoes talk to your iPod Nano when you go running. Pretty sweet.
So here’s the contest: Not only do runners have to get to the Coliseum on Saturday, they also have to get to the Niketown store in Beverly Hills on Thursday or Friday to pick up their running packets (which includes their dry-fit shirt with the bib number on it). Leave a comment with the transit routes that serve these venues or with instructions on how to get to one of the venues from your neighbhorhood and you will be entered in a raffle with the others who comment for a chance to win the shoes! Contest closes on Friday, September 14th.
Here’s the addresses of the venues the particpants need to get to:
Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum
3911 South Figueroa Street
Los Angeles, CA 90037
Niketown
9560 Wilshire Boulevard
Beverly Hills, CA 90212

Home to the Coliseum:
Metro Rapid 754 South which is precisely how I will be arriving on Saturday. Thanks for the raffle!
Interesting…so that’s why there is no Metro directions on their website.
Too bad there’s no Expo Line running yet. But from his not-really-the-Eastside compound, the Militant could take the 204, 354 or even the Red & Blue Lines to Washington Station and bike it the rest of the way.
Oh yea, to those of your participating, you can either include your email address in your comment or email it to me at metrorider@elhay.net so if you win I have a way to contact you. Thanks!
I can suggest two routes that connects Niketown Beverly Hills to the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, Metro Rapids 720 & 754, the top two busiest Metro Rapid lines, so they should be pretty frequent. Niketown is 1/5 mile from the 720 Rapid stop on Wilshire Bl. and Beverly Dr.; the L.A. Memorial Coliseum is 1/2 mile from the 754 Rapid stop on Vermont Av. and MLK Jr. Blvd. Transfer between 720 & 754 is done at Wilshire/Vermont. Local lines that complement the 720 & 752 are the 20 & 204 respectively. Local line 4 and Rapid 704 are the Santa Monica Bl. routes that can take you near Niketown at the intersection of Santa Monica and Wilshire. For the LA Memorial Coliseum, Metro Rapids 740 & 745 also gets as close to a half mile; for the 745 you have to walk under the Harbor Freeway. From the Harbor Transitway 37th street station, it is also a half mile walk, or jog, to get there.
Since I’m from the San Fernando Valley, the best way to get to both places is via the Metro Red Line (and Orange Line too connecting to the Red at NoHo). It’s better to get to Niketown via 720 by getting out at Wilshire/Vermont and travelling west on the 720; at the same station, you can go south to the Coliseum via the 754; eliminating the need to take two buses if you’re to get off at Hollywood/Highland even though that station is closer to Niketown.
Correction, that 752 in my last statement should have been 754.
send me send me your shoes after midnight!!!
good luck to all runners!!
easy for me since i live downtown. downtown to the colisseum -
take the METRO BUS 81 heading south
from FLOWER ST/8TH ST(SW corner) and it drops you off at FIGUEROA ST/39TH ST(SW corner) where you can follow everyone to the colisseum
If I were going, from my home near Van Nuys Airport, I would use these routings:
To Niketown:
Metro 163 or 363 on Sherman Way to Van Nuys Blvd.
Metro Rapid 761 to Wilshire/Westwood
Metro 20 or Rapid 720 to Wilshire/Santa Monica Blvd.
To the Coliseum:
Metro 163 to Lankershim Blvd.
Metro 224 to North Hollywood Station
Metro Red Line to 7th St/Metro Center
Metro 81 (stop is near the Flower St. exit of the rail station) to Exposition Park
If it were possible to stop by Niketown on Saturday before going to the Coliseum, I’d likely take Metro 4 to San Vicente Blvd. and then Metro 550 direct to Exposition Park, but you didn’t ask that so I won’t say that.
Oh. Oops.
Since I live in Los Feliz Village I would jump on the red line at Vermont/sunset and take that to Pershing Square. I would then pick up the 81 on Hill and 4th the rest of the way to the Coliseum. I could also jump on the 754 and walk the last leg too if I felt like it
As for getting to Nike town I would take the 745 from Hollywood/Vermont to Wilshire Blvd, then pick up the 720 to Beverly
From my place in Pasadena…
to the Coliseum:
Allen Station > Union Station via Gold Line
Union Station > 7th/Metro Center via Red Line
7th/Metro Center > 37th St Station via the Harbor Transitway
to NikeTown:
Allen Station > Union Station via Gold Line
Union Station > Wilshire/Western Station via Purple Line
Wilshire/Western > Wilshire Bl. and Beverly Dr. via Rapid 920 or 720
From where I live in Westchester:
For Niketown I would probably take the Culver City 6 to Santa Monica Blvd, and then the 4 or 704 to Wilshire or Canon or somewhere in between and walk the last little bit (I could go to Wilshire and take the 20/720/920, but I don’t trust Wilshire in the Sepulveda area). Alternatively if I wanted to avoid going through West LA I could take the Green Line to the Blue Line to the Purple Line to Wilshire/Western, and grab tne 20/720/920 in the other direction.
To the Coliseum:
Culver City 6 to the Green Line to the Blue Line to Vernon Station, and then Dash Southeast to the Coliseum.
When will you be announcing the winner?

Cool. Thanks. The race was a ton of fun so hopefully some of the other readers will be encourage to go. MC Hammer was entertaining but the real talent was displayed by his dancing crew. They were impressive. The only downside was the 754 which was packed!
