Damien Goodmon recently launched his long awaited Get L.A. Moving web presence and the L.A. Times was there to report it. Both Goodmon and Numan Parada of the Transit Coalition (see his map here) are profiled in the article which sheds some light on these transit visionaries and hints towards the growing transit advocacy movement that drives them. And of course, there’s an element of skepticism in the article, with a derogatory quote from a professor at the traditionaly backwards thinking USC School of Policy, Planning, and Development deriding rail as “19th century technology” in our “21st century city”.
Cynicism aside, it’s great so see these guys get some attention, they deserve it for their hard work and bold visions of the future. We need more visonaires like them in our city!

Yeah a guy with a Mac gets the colr LAT pic and you don’t even have the huevos to name the internationally recognised USC professor who knows better.
0% huevos dewd. scurred.
awww, wawb dwawgz upswet
Only a few corridors in the county are dense enough for rail to be financially realistic, said Genevieve Giuliano, a professor at the USC School of Policy, Planning and Development.
“Instead of trying to overlay 19th century rail technology on a 21st century city, we should be reinventing the bus system, providing exclusive lanes for buses in places where we need the capacity to move people,” she said. “That’s a whole lot cheaper than building billions of dollars of rail.”
Wow, that sure sounds “anti-transit” to me. Not.
When was it stated that it was anti-transit? I said the USC professor was derogatory of these guys maps because they are rail maps, and Mrs. Giuliano (and USC Planning Dept. in general) is anti-rail… not anti-transit.
I used the words “backwards thinking” to describe the USC Planning Dept. because they are anti-rail, which I think is backwards thinking. Certainly Mrs. Giuliano is far smarter and more educated than me, but it should be clear that my comments are my own opinion, and perhaps the opinion of other rail advocates.
cheaper isn’t always better robbo. a better life for all those that live in los angeles county is worth the bill.
When was it stated that it was anti-transit?
Here try this bit: … Ohhh; Wait the orignal post has been changed to DELETE the “anti-transit” comment. Low blow. Typical. Unexpected however. Fred, come clean. You changed the post. Will you admit? I used “anti-transit” in quotes ONLY because it was a direct quote. Now, now, I’m used to this. I’m sure you will either deny in the hopes that I didn’t image the old text or you will more likely claim you were only joking. This isn’t funny.
Seriously what are you talking about Rob? You’re accusing me of lying! I haven’t touched the post. What would be the point?
Obviously if I had said “anti-transit” it would have been a mistake, and I would have no problem saying I made a mistake, but unlike you I read the article before posting and was well aware the she was promoting bus-lanes and not “anti-transit”.
You are a troll dude, plain and simple. Sometimes you have some interesting things to say, and I appreciate that, but when you come around just to troll on transit advocates, it’s utterly pointless.
This post was simply a link post to an outside article, accompanied with a bit of commentary by yours truly. But the first thing you do is say I don’t have “huevos” by not mentioning the name of the USC professor. Troll. First off, the article was not about the USC professor, it was about the guys drawing maps, so I figured a picture of one of them and their names was more important than the USC professor who was quoted once in the article. If you want her name, click the link, and, in the vernacular of the internet, RTFA.
Please please please stop trolling dude. If you have something useful to add, by all means do. If you want to go on about how these maps these guys are drawing are useless, by all means do. If you want to teach us about USC professors, share your knowledge with us. But if you just want to be a prick, save it for Casey Serin man.
PS. If you indeed have an image of the “old” text before I “changed” it, please post a link. I need to know if I’m insane, because I know for the life of me that I have made no changes to this post since I first posted it this morning.
You are a troll dude, plain and simple.
He said, he said. I shan’t trouble you anymore. No parting accusations, no shaking fists. Just a long memory. Ask Kym or Darrell. I pulled “anti-transit” from the larger edited phrase that still remains “derogatory [anti-transit] quote” but it doesn’t matter. I added “useful” by quoting a USC professor that you sought to misrepresent as being anti-transit. Eh? Why? You were the one that tried to take the high ground with the laugable “cynicism aside” comment.
rob, you’re such a selfless martyr. if only more people could be more… “informed” like you. please feel free to continue your devil’s advocate work across the internet for it is needed to keep all of us transit CRAZIES in check. to wake us all up to the reality of how great private transit and cars really are. how backwards and a complete waste of money that public transit is. like paul, you must continue to preach the good word, and save all those ever thinking LA could be something other than a parking lot. we’re sorry for wanting parks and useful multi-purpose buildings instead of expanding pavement. we’re sorry for thinking that things here could be better for the millions that have to travel to work and play every single day of the year. you’re a tru hero and i for one am sorry for not seeing it sooner. i shall drive a car now, i shall tell all to drive cars too, and make sure that drive to work lasts just a tad bit longer, after all, i would hate to not hear the entire morning zoo crew show. they’re going to re-air the best of near the end of the program. SWEEET!!!
as for your accusation. you’re the biggest fan of
as such, so that alone shows it wasn’t pulled right from the post cuz you would have most def done so. so just like i previously would have never thought you’d lie outright, i know even more that fred camino wouldn’t either so i guess you’re in the wrong. but thanks for offering Kym and Darrell’s opinion, you’re again, a selfless saint.
though i should compliment you, you’ve successfully changed the point of this post entirely. congrads. however, to all others that care, damien goodmon has done a great job in showing wut could be, and i’d hate for his work, and all others fighting for a better LA to be forgotten because of people like rob dawg.
Rob Dawg sed:
“I added “useful” by quoting a USC professor that you sought to misrepresent as being anti-transit. Eh? Why?”
Why? Because I didn’t. What kind of idiot are implying that I am? This post has a link to the article I was referring to which makes it clear that the Professor is not “anti-transit”. If I sought to misrepresent her, as you explicitly state, why would I supply a link to the article which would refute my misrepresentation instantly?
What is obvious is that you are constantly on the attack. It seems evident that you didn’t even bother to read the linked article (and the subject of the post) until over an hour after your first troll post (you know, the attack on my manhood). Unless you’d like to imply that I’ve changed the timestamps to further whatever agenda you imagine I had with this post.
Bottom line: By continuing to call me a liar
(and a dumb one at that), with no evidence, no logical reasoning, and in spite my denial of such allegations, you have officially worn out your welcome here.
You are always welcome at EN. That’s the difference.
Oh you’re welcome here, you’ve just worn out your welcome. I’ve never called you a liar on EN. That’s the difference.
I wish people would share their opinions with a bit less vitriol. It’s great that we have a debate (too many blogs are just echo chambers). But it’s too easy to attack the opponent, when we should be addressing the viewpoint.
We all want a livable city in which we can get around. Some of us think rail is the answer, and some don’t. I see very few arguments supporting ieither perspective, but a lot of conviction.
But perhaps that’s because it began as a response to the “19th century technology” swipe, which really doesn’t explain the presumed inferiority of rail. (I mean, hammers are paleolithic technology, and they work pretty darn well!)
We need more light, less heat n this argument.
[...] Hopefully, I can get in the door after having my cover completely blown. [...]
A vintage tirade by Eric Mann appears in the May 7 “Los Angeles Times”. True to form, he manages to interject race into the old zero sum argument regarding rail vs. bus. “Rail projects are for white people”. Say what? Has he ever ridden the Blue Line? Mr. Mann does have a point, though, about the MTA proposed fare increases. They do come under the heading of “Let them eat cake.”
