Happy birthday, FlyAway

The Union Station-to-Los Angeles International Airport FlyAway is already a year old. My, they grow up so fast!
And the Los Angeles Times’s Bottleneck Blog reports that tomorrow, there will be a celebration and giveaways.
From the blog via City News Service:
LAX is scheduled to celebrate the route’s first anniversary tomorrow by putting a commemorative edition bus into service and awarding annual passes for unlimited free rides on the FlyAway and Metro lines to 10 passengers. Additionally, bus service will be free from tomorrow through March 31.
Here are some FlyAway items on MetroRiderLA:
- Well, I guess we have the FlyAway (12-27-06)
- Unmarked FlyAway buses (11-13-06)
- Live post: Via FlyAway (6-23-06)
- FlyAway all the way (6-19-06)

Haha nice. I like the FlyAway honestly better than any other city’s service I’ve used. Sure, I’d love to see a train instead, but… what, Philly’s R1? No THANK you. Freeze my rear off waiting for the El? I don’t think so. The insufferable trip on the A to Manhattan from JFK? I’m not feeling any happier. Boston’s overcrowded city bus, complete with the 5 minute switch from overhead power to CNG in the middle of a South Boston parking lot? Are you kidding me?!
So yeah, I’m overall happy with this. I’m not even sure I’d take the green line to the airport if they extended it into LAX, not with the hassle of changing from red/blue/green. I can’t see how that could ever be any shorter than the FlyAway, time-wise.
And on that note, free fares, whee, I get to save money on my pick-up run to the airport next weekend *laugh*.
Yah, this free game couldn’t have come at a better time for three of my friends/family r all flying into LAX thiis weekend and right off the bat they’re getting savings and accomodation, not something that usually goes hand in hand in elhay. Thatta way flyaway!
i love the flyaway for many reasons. Recently I discovered it serves as the perfect accomplice in business trip expense report fraud. 55 dollar cab ride or 3 bus ride, hmmmmmmm…..
one problem with the flyaway: consistent playing of slightly-too-loud smooth jazz.
