After the Golden Dragon Parade (part of the Chinese Lunar New Year Celebration) in Chinatown, Angelenos packed the Chinatown Gold Line station. I’ve never seen a Gold Line station (or train) this crowded. Proof that Angelenos are ready and willing to use rail transit. Expand the rail system and bring more transit oriented development and events!

Yeah this even was proof positive that the populace is more then willing to use public transit when possible. There were so many people on the subway and Gild Line on Saturday. I’ve never seen the trains at such capacity on a weekend. I think Angelinos get a bad rap as being transit unfriendly but it’s more about not having the right kind of transit connections then anything. Once we get a comprehensive rail network established we’ll see tons of ridership. The fax machine effect.
indeed, i was riding my bike that day… both tires popped (lolz) and i had to walk it to the red line. it was packed walking down and around union station, through chinatown and olvera street. as i walked i could see the cold line station was filled with people on the platform. to capacity really. nice footage, really does the occasion and possibility justice. build it and they will come!
