Bicycle love-fest in Long Beach
In preparation for the Amgen Tour of California, a staged noncontiguous bicycle race throughout the state, Long Beach is hosting events on Saturday, Feb. 24, on the eve of Stage 7 taking place on Sunday.
East Village Art in Motion Festival, noon to 7 p.m., has bicycle-themed art, social networking and a tricycle relay race. It is around Linden Avenue and Broadway, a close and easy walk from the Long Beach Transit Mall.
Later that evening, Party With a Purpose is a ticketed event on Pine Avenue featuring a concert with The Emperors, Tripdavon and The Bravery, along with dinner at one of Pine’s fine dining establishments. It happens 6-11 p.m. Tickets are $35 (and at least $100 for a VIP dinner) and are available through the site.
Transit access: Metro Blue Line and Local lines 60 and 232; all Long Beach Transit lines except 45, 101-103, 131 and 171; Torrance Transit Line 3; LADOT Line 142; and Orange County Transportation Authority Line 60.
The tour’s other Southern California presence is the 105-mile Stage 6, starting in Santa Barbara and ending in Santa Clarita.
