Griffith Park Master Plan

Here’s a link to the mobility chapter of the Griffith Park Master Plan.

My quick take is that there is heavy emphasis on accomodating cars, little-to-no emphasis on encouraging public transit or cyclists.

What do you guys think?

  1. one thing i notice for sure is the fact that the main (possibly only) bus to travel through the park on riverside is route 96 which is a joke. however, the plan seems to want to improve on (create) shuttle routes within the park, so if you can get to one of the main entrances you should be okay. including shelters at the stops with maps of the system which would be necessary. however, i do agree, the emphasis of the whole thing seems to be on parking and therefore cars. just brushing over “improving” public transit and def not as a replacement plan for the parking problems but instead justifications for facility expansions and improvements.

  2. The LA Straphanger brought up an idea a few weeks ago about an aerial tram to Griffith Park from the Hollywood/Western Red Line Station based on what he saw being done in Portland. The Griffith Park Mobility Plan actually does mention Aerial Trams as a possibility with two potential locations (none of them starting at Hollywood/Western). You can read about it on page 5-8 of the Mobility Plan.

There definately needs to be an easy way to get to the Zoo via public transit, as I don’t think there is one now.
