Six lines will see service cancellations and more lines will be broken to improve Metro service reliability within the San Fernando Valley. These service changes would go into effect in June 2006 if approved, according to the San Fernando Valley Transit Insider.

The changes are to be discussed at meetings on January 10 and February 7 in Van Nuys.

Cancellations and service reductions include:

154: Cancel midday and Saturday service.
155: Cancel late night and weekend service.
168: Cancel service.
183: Cancel service between Burbank and Glendale.
239: Cancel midday and weekend service.
656: Operate only between Panorama City and Hollywood.

Kymberleigh Richards, Transit Insider webmaster and member of the San Fernando Valley Sector Governance Council, said in an e-mail that “service cancellations will shift operating hours to overcrowded high-ridership lines to improve frequency of service on those lines.”

Routing changes are proposed for:
90/91: End northbound service at Sunland and create new Line 290 to operate
between Sunland and Olive View Medical Center.
92: End northbound service at Burbank Metrolink Station and create new Line
292 to operate between Burbank and Sylmar/San Fernando Station.

A new express service is proposed to run between North Hollywood and Pasadena, possibly complementing service provided by the Los Angeles Department of Transportation’s Commuter Express Line 549.

The January 10 and February 7 meetings, both beginning at 6:30 p.m. are held at the Marvin Braude Constituent Center (Van Nuys City Hall), 6262 Van Nuys Boulevard, in Van Nuys. It is accessible by the Metro Orange Line, Rapid Line 761, Local lines 156, 164, 233 and 237; and LADOT DASH Panorama City-Van Nuys and Van Nuys-Studio City.
