Transit TV SUX!!!

The L.A. Straphanger has made a list of his Top 10 L.A. Transit Gripes. Now there’s nothing inherently unique about a blogger griping about transit in Los Angeles, but the Straphanger is a transit blogger who’s definately got some sense about him, so his list is pretty respectable as far as these types of posts go.

My personal favorite is the fifth gripe on his list about the lack of decent signage on the Metro system:

“Lack of adequate signage and information for transit riders. There are so many examples of poor signage and information. OK, stream of consciousness: Santa Monica Big Blue Bus stop signs that don’t even tell you what lines serve the bus stop…no signage outside Union Station on Alameda telling people that two Metro Rail lines are inside…bus stops with no schedule or route information…subway station entrances at Seventh Street/Metro Center that are easy to miss if you don’t already know where they are…hard to find and read destination signs on subway trains, resulting in countless lost souls on the subway…not enough advance notice to riders when buses detour for filming or special events…”

He also gripes about the classic transit target, the much maligned Transit TV, but personally I’ve always kind of enjoyed it, if only for the hotties who report the weather. I do wish that they would move the live bus map to the main part of the screen and relegate the ads to the sidebar because otherwise it might as well not even be there if you are seated more than two seats away from the monitor.

And now I invite you to visit the Straphanger’s article and list some of your biggest gripes with L.A. public transit: go ahead and get it all out so we can move on to greener pastures.

  1. regarding getting passed… probably the most aggrivating thing in the world. the 4 passed me the other day at Santa Monica and Beverly. this after seeing 4 304 busses zip past (nothing wrong with that of course since those 304 are “expresses”, just a slap in the face is all). whats better, is that the lady i was standing there with was just talking about how the day before she was on a bus that was passing the majority of stops and people weren’t even standing yet! OH GLORIOUS AND RELIABLE METRO!

  2. One more to add: waiting for a bus that’s running horrifically late (30+ minutes), only to have 4 of them pull up (belatedly) at the same time. ARGH!

  3. that’s certainly the classic metrogripe queequeg… there’s nothing more aggrivating. i’d like to add a metro-mole-esque gripe about certain metroriders… that’s right, the ones who treat the buses and trains as if they are garbage trucks instead of people-movers. why deface the shit out of a fairly nice bus or train car with your god awful “scratchiti”? why leave your trash in your seat when you leave? why put your nasty ass gum cover shoes on the seat that i’m going to sit on? and why, god, please tell me why, do you chose to, of all things, clip your nails on the bus/train??? SHOW SOME RESPECT METRORIDERS!!!
