The public transit lifestyle and the car-free lifestyle walk hand-in-hand. If you’ve decided to go car-free, it’s very likely you’re living a public transit lifestyle, and likewise if you’ve embraced public transit you’re probably on your way to becoming car-free.
Jillian over at Metroblogging Los Angeles has caught wind of an event called Life Can Be So Car-Free presented by C.I.C.L.E., a non-profit organization that promotes a “bicycle-lifestyle”. This event will be held this weekend, on Saturday September 30th at the new Los Angeles Historic State Park (aka The Cornfield), in Downtown LA. It starts at 5pm and goes until 10pm. The website for the event smartly makes note of the public transit options to get there, including the nearby Gold Line Chinatown station. There will be bikes rides along the Los Angeles River, live music, film screenings, and demostrations to increase awareness about car-free living. This looks like a great way to spend a Saturday evening in Los Angeles in a way I think most Angelenos don’t even think is possible: car-free in an urban public green space. It almost gives a blogger hope for the future.
Here’s a few links to some sites that promote a car-free lifestyle:
- Carfree Cities
- CarFree City USA
- World Carfree Network
- Santa Barbara Car Free (LA needs a site like this one)
