Subway Vs. Monorail Redux

Contributed by ScottMercer on September 22nd, 2006 at 2:53 am

Over at Curbed LA, there was a post about the anniversary of the methane explosion at the Ross store on Third Street near Fairfax in 1985. This led to the federal legislation against subway tunneling under Wilshire Boulevard by Hnery Waxman, which is scheduled to be repealed today. This item led to a rather spirited debate in the comments section regarding new subways vs. monorails. Check it out here.

  1. Thanks Scott! Been so busy I missed that whole debate. I’ll have to read through it and I’ll post my opinion here. I’m sure others who missed it will chime into.

  2. It’s amazing that people are still trying to push monorails. The absolute absurdity of monorails outside of Disney world is ridiculous. I can’t even begin to imagine the use of such a thing in LA. And backing such an endeavor is so illogical. Saying its worth it cuz it’ll be faster and cheaper to build (an idea which they don’t back with any statistics) than a subway. And Hasn’t there been enough examples of MTA cheaping out in the beginning only to end up paying more in the end? Let the list begin, starting with the ticket machines… and lets hope at the end of that long list there isn’t an idiotic monorail.

  4. sadly it looks like the LA City Nerd is behind such a catastrophe as well, or perhaps he’s just in the joke… hopefully its the latter.
