Downtown News doesn’t find LADOT DASHing
Late buses missed connections are nothing new to bus riders, and they happen to agencies good and bad.
The L.A. Downtown News wrote about problems with the DASH services in the city center.
One key problem, as the article outlined, is inadequate service evaluation by the Los Angeles Department of Transportation and the operator of the buses, First Transit.
In fiscal year 2004-2005, the DASH was on schedule 92% of the time, Lefton said. However, the contract’s definition of “late” makes it difficult to gauge the actual performance.According to the contract’s terms, an arrival less than five minutes late is technically on time, even for routes that are scheduled to arrive every five minutes.Even then, there’s little in the way of reporting that takes place, and certainly no incentive for First Transit to do so.
UPDATE: Downtown News editorializes on the DASH story.

Nice catch, I read this article too. I live downtown but never really have a reason to ride the dash, the service ends by the time I’m home from work. There is nothing more aggrivating to me though than feeling like the buses are following no schedule at all.
Oops, the last comment was me.
well now i’ll be happy. like today on the way to work, my bus was at least 10 minutes late, but since 5 minutes late is technically on time, i won’t get so aggrevated, but instead say, “oh well, its only like seven minutes late, better than 12 right?”
