Go Metro this Father’s Day Weekend!
So today begins the weekend, and this one is extra special because it’s Father’s Day weekend. So if you have a dad is town, take him out and show him a good time via Metro. If your dad is anything like mine, he’s a firm believer in the ideologies of public transit, so make your old man happy and show him what a good citizen you’ve become. Check out our Events Calendar for MetroRiderLA approved Metro accessible events going on this weekend, and if we’ve missed any that you think stand out, please let us know. Or you can check out MTA’s Experience LA Beta website and see an extensive list of all events going on this and everyweekend. Have a good one!

glad you brought this up. The first time my dad visited elhay, about 2 months ago, I suggested we take the train down to Olvera street, but he was dead set on seeing some of Santa Monica, Venice, and/or the hitting the beach. I’m always inclined to stay east for a number of reasons, but I figured I’d indulge him since he was a guest and getting all his tourist info from some pull-out in Vanity Fair. We ended up driving out there and it was miserable, such a horrible long drive. People don’t understand just how difficult it is to get to that part of greater “elhay”. If only the train ran out in that direction.
One can dream.. Maybe elhay will give us a westward boand train as a father’s day gift!
This hasn’t caught on that much, but if you want a great car-free way to get to the Westside, I highly recommend Santa Monica Big Blue Bus Line 10.
A few years ago, Santa Monica improved the service to run about every 15-20 minutes during rush hour and 30 minutes mid-days and weekends. It takes the 10 freeway from downtown L.A. to Bundy Avenue and travels via Bundy and Santa Monica Boulevard to the ocean.
The bus is faster than the schedules make it out to be. It’s full BODO, which really helps. People can only board on one end and get out on the other, and when there’s no traffic on the 10, you could be in Santa Monica in as little as half an hour.
Enjoy this bus while you can, because once Expo goes to the beach, this line is very likely to be canceled.
wad, expo won’t be going to the beach till its second phase correct? like 2012 or something? and where do you get on this number 10 blue bus to santa monica at?
Tyke, here’s information forLine 10. It even has a list of bus stops.
Keep in mind that eastbound, you may only board in the Westside and only get off downtown. Westbound, you may only board in downtown and only get off in the Westside.
And the Expo line is being built in two phases. The first phase, to Culver City, starts in 2010. The second phase, all the way to Santa Monica, is probably 3-5 years after that.
Hey Wad, you’re obviously a wealth of empircal information as well as an informed advocate. Plus your long posts are always well written, so if you ever feel up to adding an article, it’s more than welcome
thanks wad, loads of help.

Thanks for the offer. I’m open to it, but my concern is if I have to contribute regularly and I’ll run out of time. But I have a lot to share, so I will keep in touch and post aplenty.
No problem Wad, all your input is greatly appreaciated. And don’t feel like you have to contribute on any sort of regular basis, we are all pressed for time, which is why’d like like to leave contributing open for everyone… so we can build a wealth of opinions and information from the entire community here. So if something comes to mind that your particular passionate about or think would make a good read for everyone, don’t hesitate to contribute it, even if that’s the only time. Thanks!
