LACTMA Wins National Transit Award

According to a recent press release on the MTA website, LA’s metro has won the “America’s Best Tranist Award 2006″ given by the American Public Transportation Association (APTA). Metro CEO Roger Snoble says of the award,

“We see it as a national recognition of our goal which was, and remains, building the best possible transportation network for Los Angeles County. This isn’t the time, however, to rest on our laurels. We have big challenges ahead but we’re up to it.”

Personally, I think they are a long way from the stated goal, but hopefully this recognition will give the MTA the opportunity to truly make their system worthy of such an award.

The Wikipedia entry for the APTA informs us that last years award winner (in the category of 30+ million passenger trips) was the Orange County Transportation Authority. I couldn’t find any mention of LACMTA winning the 2006 award on the APTA website, but according to the press release from Metro, the award will be officially presented in October at the APTA Annual Convention in San Jose.

  1. There must be some sort of revolving criteria for this award if Orange Coutry won last year and Elhay this year.
    2005 = silicone ratio
    2006 = hot mexican chicks

  2. A good point for all Metro riders. Enjoy the hot mexican chicks on your crowded bus ride. Try your best not to cop a feel, let’s avoid the groping so prevelant in other metro systems.

  3. Perhaps groping is apart of public transit culture and to discourage it would be counter productive to our (LA) attempts to get respect on the national level.

  4. In my travels, I found myself in the land of the rising sun, Japan. They are notorious for their groping problems. And they they don’t always stop at just groping if you catch my drift {and I think you do.} To combat this, major cities have implamented female only cars during rush hour. You can find them by looking for the gigantic pink srickers on the ground. Of course LA doesn’t even come close to having enough riders to justify such drastic measures.
